The World's Shark Attack Hotspots

A Czech tourist was killed by a shark last Friday while swimming in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt. This follows the death in similar circumstances of a German tourist in 2015 - also on the Egyptian coast. According to the University of Florida, there have been 19 confirmed unprovoked attacks in Egypt since 1828. As this chart shows though, looking back as far as 1580, a number of places have seen far more attacks, with the U.S. a long way ahead of second placed Australia with 1,407 and 621 respectively.
