Indonesian Waters Are the World’s Most Dangerous
According to the ICC, there were only four pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia between January and September 2013. While east African waters seem to be improving in terms of security, the situation appears to be deteriorating on the other side of the continent.
29 attacks around Nigeria equate to a 38 percent increase on the same period last year. However, while Africa grabs the most headlines when it comes to piracy, Indonesia is actually the most perilous country for commercial shipping.
In the first three quarters of 2013, 68 pirate attacks were registered in Indonesian waters. For more information, ICC’s report can be found here: "Piracy and armed robbery against ships".
