The size of the Russian population decreased by approximately 500 thousand between 2020 and 2021. Since the second half of the 20th century, the population steadily grew until 1995. The population size saw an increase since 2009, getting closer to its 1995 figures. As of January 1, 2021, over 146.2 million inhabitants resided on the Russian territory.
