Largest cities in Russia in 2019

Russia's capital Moscow was the largest city of the country with over 12.6 million residents as of January 1, 2019. By 2035, its population was forecasted to reach 12.82 million. Less than a half of Moscow's population resided in Russia's second most populous city Saint Petersburg. The third largest city was Novosibirsk located in the Siberian federal district, becoming the most populous city in the Asian part of Russia.
