According to a survey conducted in Japan from January to March 2019, almost 90 percent of respondents aged 10 to 29 years old usually played video games alone. Close to 40 percent of respondents regularly played with friends they know in real life. The survey was conducted with a focus on gaming disorders. Gaming disorders were recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a medical condition in May 2019.
