Brazil: civilians killed by police intervention in Rio de Janeiro 2019-2020, by month

Among the many impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil was a reduction in the number of civilians killed as a result of police intervention in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Although February and April 2020 reported higher figures in comparison to the previous year, numbers dropped in the following months. From May to September 2020, 316 deaths due to police intervention were reported in the Brazilian state, a year-on-year decrease of nearly 63 percent.
