In the fiscal year 2020, the sales value of foods for specified health uses (FOSHU) labeled with health claims related to the intestinal regulation of lactic acid bacteria in Japan amounted to around 300 billion Japanese yen.
FOSHU designates food products with scientifically recognized health-promoting effects. Products bearing the label received the government's approval to be promoted with such health claims.
