Opinions on COVID-19 strategies for Nigerian schools 2021, by area
Most respondents in Nigerian households who had at least one child that went to school between 2019 and 2021 favored adding more hours to school days to cope with the COVID-19 impacts that hindered the learning process of their children. While 33 percent of urban area residents favored this method, 29 percent of rural area residents considered it effective. Holiday lessons were the second most favored method, as 15 percent of both urban and rural residents saw in this strategy an effective way to compensate for breakdowns in the learning process of their children. A considerable 16 percent of rural residents suggested repeating the missed school year due to COVID-19, while only 11 percent of their urban counterparts considered this a good strategy. Almost all respondents in both rural and urban areas excluded removing or reducing subjects from the school curriculum. Even though adding more hours to school days had the highest audience, the majority of Nigerian parents had different opinions and preferences regarding the best strategy.
