Share of online shoppers paying with credit card in Japan 2021, by age
Credit cards were the leading payment method in online shopping in Japan as revealed in a survey conducted in September 2021. Card payments were more likely to be used by elderly online shoppers as a settlement method for online purchases, with over 90 percent of respondents aged 60 and older. While more than 71 percent of young adults used or intended to use credit cards as well, they were also the target groups of new mobile payments like QR codes and settlements via phone carriers.
