In 2021, the total funding spent by the public transit sector in the United States amounted to approximately 77.2 billion U.S. dollars, a slight year-over-year decrease of 0.6 percent after years of steady growth until 2019. Funds of around 53.06 billion U.S. dollars were applied to public transit operations in 2021, representing 69 percent of the total national funding spent.
