Fuel consumption of the U.S. urban transit, by type 2010-2021
In 2021, the amount of motor fuel consumed by the urban transit networks in the United States reached 709 million gallons, a year-over-year decrease of around six percent from the previous year. During the same year, the most consumed fuel type was diesel with almost 65 percent of the total fuel consumption.
