In a survey conducted during the 2021 financial year in Australia, over 90 percent of respondents aged 15-17 did not meet recommended physical activity as measured against the 2014 physical activity guidelines. The majority of respondents across all age groups did not meet recommended physical activity guidelines.

The 2020-21 National Health Survey was collected during the COVID-19 pandemic and data should be considered a break in time series from previous collections and used for point-in-time national analysis only.

The National Health Survey measures physical activity against the Australian Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines (2014), which contain physical activity guidelines for children and young people (5-17 years), adults (18-64 years), and older people (65 years and over).

The Australian financial year runs from 1 July to the following 30 June. For example, the 2021 financial year began on 1 July 2020 and ended on 30 June 2021.
