Coal is biggest contributor to power sector emissions in the European Union. In 2022, coal-fired power emissions increased 5.5 percent year-on-year to 457 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂). This was the second-consecutive year that EU-27 coal power emissions increased.
