Brazil: average ticket price in retail by income

In the first three months of 2022 and 2023, the average consumer basket ticket price in retail in Brazil varied significantly depending on the socio-economic level. Classes A & B, meaning those earning more than 10 times the minimum wage (or 12,120.01 Brazilian reals), had an average ticket price of 93.9 reals. The lowest income levels, classes D & E, spent on average more than class C.

The socio-economic levels are made according to the IBGE demographic census.
The IBGE uses the Minimum Wage Range Criterion. This is a method that classifies classes based on income brackets; more specifically, by minimum wages. The minimum wage in Brazil in 2022 was 1,212 reais.
Class A: Over 20 minimum wages (24,240.01 BRL or more)
Class B: From 10 to 20 minimum wages (12,120.01 to 22,240.00 BRL)
Class C:From 4 to 10 minimum wages (4,848.01 to 12,120.00 BRL)
Class D: From 2 to 4 minimum wages ( 2,424.01 to 4,848.00 BRL)
Class E:Up to 2 minimum wages (Up to 2,424.00 BRL)
