Between 2013 and 2022, national security was the leading reason governments worldwide used to remove online content on Google, with 27 percent of all requests stating that. In the measured period, approximately 19 percent of content removal requests were based on copyright reasons. Other reasons were defamation, regulated goods and services, and privacy.
