Both the realized and estimated mobile gaming revenue for the United States market has been calculated from 2010 to 2017. In 2012, revenue from mobile gaming in the U.S. reached 314 million U.S. dollars. A year later, in 2011, this figure had risen to 559 million U.S. dollars. By 2017, forecasters expected the mobile gaming revenue in the U.S. to reach an astonishing 3.77 billion U.S. dollars.
In February 2014, the most popular Apple App Store categories were measured by percentage of all downloads. During that month, gaming apps were the most downloaded category with 40.6 percent of all app downloads. Gaming surpassed all other categories by more than 30 percent, demonstrating the popularity of mobile gaming downloads made from the Apple App Store. Furthermore, as of September 2015, 22.21 percent of available apps in the Apple App Store were gaming apps.
