This statistic shows the results of a survey on the most popular music genres in Germany in 2017. That year, rock and pop music were the most popular genres in Germany, with 36.4 percent of respondents aged 14 and older preferring it to other genres. Oldies and evergreens came in second place, with roughly 30 percent, followed by German "Schlager" with 21.4 percent. As of 2016, music sales revenue in Germany (both physical and digital) amounted to roughly 1.59 million euros. Music market revenue in Germany is forecasted to grow to more than 1.72 billion euros by 2020. An essential part of leisure time in Germany, in 2016 the number of persons listening to music at least several times a week amounted to 22.5 million.
