This statistic shows the results of a survey on the most popular music genres in Germany in 2016. That year, rock and pop music were the most popular genres in Germany, with 38 percent of respondents aged 14 and older preferring it to other genres. Oldies and evergreens came in second place, with 29.5 percent, followed by German "Schlager" with 21.9 percent. The least popular music genre that year were Chansons, with only 5.9 percent of respondents listening to this type of music. As of 2015, music sales revenue in Germany (both physical and digital) amounted to roughly 1.55 million euros. Music market revenue in Germany is forecasted to grow to almost 1.57 million euros in 2019. An essential part of leisure time in Germany, in 2015 the number of persons listening to music during their free time amounted to almost 35 million among those who did so several times a week.
