Top Twitch games – additional information

One of the most popular games among Twitch viewers is League of Legends (LoL). The game was first released to the market in 2009. Since its debut, it quickly became one of the most popular games to be featured in eSports competitions. In fact, in 2013 LoL had an estimated 70 million monthly active users (MAU) worldwide and, by 2016, that number had increased to 100 million MAU.

Another notable title on the list is Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. It was released in March 2014 by Blizzard Entertainment and, within a year, it had managed to secure a spot in the top ten ranking of massively multiplayer online games worldwide, based on revenue. Since its release, the game’s player base has been steadily growing. In 2014, shortly after its release, Hearthstone had ten million players worldwide, while in November 2018, Blizzard revealed that Hearthstone's player count figure had grown to 100 million.

The second title frequently making an appearance on the most viewed Twitch games list is Counter Strike: Global Offensive, CS:GO in short. In 2018, the title ranked third among the most played games on Steam based on peak concurrent user count. CS:GO was also very high on a ranking of most wagered on eSports games worldwide. However, those gambling activities, involving controversial skin-betting, were the cause of a scandal revolving around the Counter Strike brand and its developer, Valve and resulted in several lawsuit filings in 2016.
