Public broadcaster NPO1 was the most viewed television channel in the Netherlands in 2018, with a daily audience reach of 42 percent. The other public TV channels, NPO2 and NPO3, reached a daily audience of 22.5 and 19.7 percent respectively. In an average week, NPO1 reached just under 77 percent of the Dutch population in 2018.

Daily audience reach and age groups

TV’s daily audience reach differed considerably between age groups. In 2017, the highest audience reach was reached among the retirees, amounting to just over 86 percent. By comparison, television reached a daily audience reach of only 43.6 percent among the 13-19 years old.

 Audience market share public television 

  Between 2014 and 2018, the audience market share of public broadcasters in the Netherlands remained relatively stable, peaking in 2014 at 33.2 percent. In 2018, the market share of public television amounted to 32 percent. Regional broadcasters were markedly less popular than their national counterparts though. In 2018, they had an audience market share of just 1.2 percent.
