Population distribution Australia 2019 by age

In June 2019, it was estimated that around seven percent of Australians were aged between 25 and 29, and the same share was aged between 30 and 34. Similarly to most economically developed countries, it is predicted that Australia will have a much older population in the future.

 New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria 

Looking at a state and territory breakdown, the age distribution of the population in New South Wales and Victoria is, perhaps unsurprisingly, very similar, with the majority of the population falling into the 25 to 29 and 30 to 34 age ranges. There is a notable exception in Queensland however, where there is a similar share of adults within the 45 to 49 age range.

 South and Western Australia 

The other states and territories generally follow a similar pattern, with Western Australia being a clear example. Interestingly, the population in South Australia seems to have a more even distribution across older age brackets, with those aged between 55 and 59 having an equal share to younger residents of South Australia.
