Value of the apparel market in India 20109-2018 The growth in the Indian economy has led to a significant growth in the apparel industry as well. The textile sector in the country is one of the oldest dating back to several centuries. The industry offers a good choice of products ranging from hand-spun and hand-woven textiles to sophisticated mill products. It is the handwork done after years of experience and family heritage that makes the textile industry in the south Asian country special and creates a popular demand worldwide. The value of the domestic apparel market in the nation was over five trillion Indian rupees in fiscal year 2018.
Festivals and clothing

Being a country with a diverse culture and religious beliefs, the nation comes together almost every month to celebrate different festivals and to enjoy and experience different religions. Festivals were also the main reason for ethnic apparel purchase across the country according to a survey carried out in 2019. With the population on its way to becoming the world’s largest and the concept of fusion between the western and ethnic designs, the demand for clothing has been on the rise in the recent years.

Comfort shopping

Online shopping has given a huge boost to the clothing market just as much as it has done for the other industries. Amazon was the preferred choice for online purchase of clothes followed closely by Flipkart in 2019. However, most of the online shopping is for western attire as compared to ethnic clothing, where the consumers chose to shop in-store. The future of the textile sector looks promising, both in terms of domestic demand and international export. The entry of more international firms and the desire to stay up to date with the latest fashion trends, is likely to keep the mills running at a good pace in the coming future.
