U.S. pumpkin prices during Halloween 2017-2022

Since 2018, the average price of pumpkins during Halloween in the U.S. have increased by almost 40 percent, reaching about 5.4 U.S. dollars per pumpkin in 2022.

Pumpkin carving

Halloween is a very popular holiday in the United States and carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns is a tradition in many families. Although the price for individual pumpkins increased in 2022, that did not hinder plans to carve pumpkins for Halloween. In 2022, just under 149 million people in the U.S. planned to carve a pumpkin, increasing from about 146.4 million the previous year.

U.S. pumpkin production

In 2021, the United States produced about 16.5 million centum weight (cwt) of pumpkins, about 26 percent more than was produced the previous year. Along with the increase in production, the per capita consumption of pumpkins also increased to 6.2 pounds of fresh pumpkin per capita that year.
