The survey results suggest that as of 2018, there was a significant gap between the public perception and reality of unemployment numbers in both the Netherlands and Belgium. In reality, less than ten percent of people of working age were unemployed and seeking work in 2018. However, survey respondents in the Netherlands overestimated the share of unemployed job seekers by roughly 15 percent, while this figure increased to approximately 20 percent among Belgian respondents.
