In 2020, Argentinian respondents were the most prone to agree with abortion as long as the woman so decides, among five Latin American countries surveyed. Up to 44 percent of respondents in Argentina agreed with that statement, while in Chile this figure stood at 41 percent. Mexico and Peru registered the highest share of respondents who thought abortion should be forbidden in any case, at 12 percent in both cases. Peruvian respondents were mostly distributed between allowing abortion only in certain circumstances (39 percent) and prohibiting the procedure except in life-threatening pregnancies (23 percent).
