For all of the negativity surrounding the election of Donald Trump as president, it really has turned out to be a positive for late night television in the US. Feeding off of the seemingly endless stories coming out of the White House and the president's Twitter feed, shows such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Saturday Night Live have seen considerable ratings boosts and worldwide attention.
At the Emmys
on Sunday, this increase in popularity looks set to be emphasized, with Saturday Night Live receiving the joint-highest number of nominations
(22) along with HBO's Westworld. Underlining the success, 22 is the most nominations any season of SNL has received in the show's 42 year history.
