Diversity has been trust into the spotlight in the wake of high profile sexual harassment, ethnicity and gender discrimination allegations during the emergence of #MeToo. A multitude of studies have shown that diversity
can be a tremendous asset to companies with more diverse teams resulting in better financial results. Considering its importance, Statista and Forbes worked together to compile a list of America's best employers for diversity.
That involved surveying 50,000 employees in the U.S. and examining the diversity of top executive teams and boards
. It also looked at whether companies have leaders that promote diversity as well as whether a company proactively communicates about the topic.
Packaging and aerospace company Ball was named America's Best Employer For Diversity in 2019 with a score of 85.85. The company says that it emphasizes embracing diversity and providing an inclusive environment where its employees can thrive. A statement on Ball's website says that "diversity among individuals and teams helps to unleash ideas and fuel innovation, which drives growth and value throughout our global organization". Diversity is also important for second-placed Nielsen and third-placed BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, both of whom employ diversity officers to uphold their commitment to a workplace where everyone is valued and respected, regardless of factors such as age, race, culture, gender and sexuality.
