End of XP Is Bandage for Ailing PC Market
The first quarter of 2014 marked an improvement in the struggling PC market in comparison with the same period last year. The majority of the main manufacturers made gains, including Lenovo, HP, Dell and Asus. Lenovo and Dell did particularly well, posting 10.9 and 9 percent increase in shipments over Q1 2013.
One of the primary reasons for this slight improvement is Microsoft’s decision to end support for its XP operating system. Many people have decided to upgrade or replace their PCs, resulting in the improved shipment figures.
