Ireland has been badly affected by storms in recent days with numerous areas suffering from flooding including Clare, Offaly, Limerick and Mayo. Given the level of damage caused by the weather conditions, Statista compiled a list of the costliest winter storms ever to strike Europe for Irish publication The Journal. Data from Munich RE shows that Winter Storm Lothar from 1999 caused an estimated €10.6 billion in damage, as well as claiming 110 lives across the continent.
This chart shows fatalities and financial losses of Europe's 10 costliest winter storms.
