Which city in the United Kingdom can lay claim to being the most innovative? According to new research published in the "Cities Outlook 2017" report, Cambridge filed the most patents of any British city by far in 2016 - 341.1 for every 100,000 of its residents. Coventry was in second place with 118.4 per 100,000 residents, three-times fewer than Cambridge. Overall, London had the highest number of patents of any city in the UK but it did not make the list due to its large population. London had 21 patents per 100,000 residents in 2015, according to the report.
This chart shows the number of patent applications per 100,000 published in 2015.
