According to a survey conducted in November 2019 among locals of the 47 prefectures in Japan, residents in Tokyo planned to spend an average of around 13.2 thousand Japanese yen on New Year's money gifts (O-toshidama). O-toshidama refers to money in small decorative envelopes given to children by their relatives on New Year's Day.
