Since then, the number of cases in Italy increased steadily, reaching almost 26.3 million as of November 15, 2023. The region mostly hit by the virus in the country was Lombardy, counting almost 4.2 million cases. On January 11, 2022, 220,532 new cases were registered, which represented the biggest daily increase in cases in Italy since the start of the pandemic.
