In 2019 only four percent of debut television series from cable TV had highly diverse casts in the United States. However, a study looking at the share of nonwhite cast members in the annual top 100 debuts in the United States found that the number of titles with non-diverse casts had decreased from 20 titles in 2017 to 16 in 2019.

Non diverse: U.S. first-run television scripted series premiere in which less than 40% of the series regular cast is nonwhite.
Moderately diverse: U.S. first-run television scripted series premiere in which at least 40% but less than 60% of the series regular cast is nonwhite.
Highly diverse: U.S. first-run television scripted series premiere in which at least 60% of the series regular cast is nonwhite.
