Comcast: no of video subscribers in the U.S. 2014-2020

Founded in 1963, American mass media conglomerate Comcast is one of the leading broadcasting and pay TV companies in the world. The Philadelphia-headquartered company has a strong presence in its domestic market. As of the third quarter of 2016, Comcast was the largest pay TV provider in the U.S. with 22.4 million subscribers during the measured time. The provider held about 23 percent of the pay TV market in the U.S. in the last few years, and is forecast to maintain a similar share of the American market up until 2022. DirecTV, Charter, Dish Network, AT&T and Verizon are the company’s main competitors in the American pay TV market.

In North America, many Comcast subscribers have stated using pay-per-rental video services. Amazon Instant Video is the most popular provider amongst Comcast subscribers – about 19 percent of Comcast subscribers used Amazon Instant Video in the third quarter of 2015. Despite its leadership in the pay TV market in the U.S., Comcast is not the leading video subscription service in the U.S. This market is led by Californian entertainment company Netflix that had a total of 47 million subscribers as of the first quarter of 2016. DirecTV has the second largest video subscription base – with 25.3 million subscribers during the same measured period – followed by Comcast with 22.4 million subscribers. The number of Comcast video subscribers has remained fairly consistent since the beginning of 2014, as the number of subscribers ranged between 22.2 and 24 million since then.
