Awareness of "gender identity" and its meaning among heterosexual Japanese 2019
According to a survey conducted between November and December 2019 about diversity in the workplace, over 60 percent of heterosexual Japanese respondents without an LGBT acquaintance were not familiar with the term 'gender identity' and its meaning. As opposed to a person's sex assigned at birth, the term 'gender identity' describes the gender an individual identifies as. This gender can either correlate with or differ from their assigned sex.
