Consumption of wheat in Algeria 2016-2021
In 2020/2021, the total consumption of wheat in Algeria exceeded 11 million metric tons, increasing compared to the previous years. This represented a peak in the period under review. From 2016 onwards, wheat consumption in the country grew annually. By comparison, around 10.3 million metric tons of wheat were consumed in 2016/2017.
In 2019, wheat represented the leading cereal produced in Algeria. However, the total production was clearly below domestic consumption, meaning that the country had to rely on imports.
