Global downloads of selected mobile app categories Q3 2021

During the third quarter of 2021, mobile gaming apps recorded more than 14.3 billion downloads from users worldwide, up by eight percent compared to the number of downloads amassed during the second quarter of the year. Additionally, entertainment apps amassed almost two billion downloads from global users in the most recently examined quarter. Between the first and the third quarter of 2021, global downloads of food and drink apps reported a modest increase, reaching 427 million. Mobile sports applications, which reported the smallest number of downloads among the surveyed categories, reached approximately 264 million downloads in the third quarter of 2021.

In 2020, the number of mobile app downloads grew to 218 billion worldwide, with global users relying more than ever on their mobile devices during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
