Japan: certified organic produce volume by type

In fiscal year 2020, around 78.7 thousand metric tons of agricultural produce in Japan were certified organic, of which vegetables accounted for the majority, with around 49 thousand metric tons.
Agricultural produce distributed as organic foods in Japan have to be certified under the Organic Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) system. The certification is done by auditors accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
