Japan: organic processed food import volume

In fiscal year 2020, around 54.75 thousand tons of processed foods imported to Japan were certified organic, representing an increase from almost 48.5 thousand tons in the previous fiscal year.
Agricultural produces distributed as organic foods in Japan have to be certified under the Organic Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) system or a comparable system in the case of imported products. The certification is done by auditors accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
