As of June 2021, 50 percent of Android mobile apps hosted in the Google Play Store in the categories 'children' and 'family' in the United States reported no child policy but collected some form of personal user information, violating the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Additionally, almost 30 percent of apps on the platform claimed not to be aimed at children, but also did not present any age limit and collected personal information. Almost one in 10 apps shifted the responsibility of online security over children or their parents.
