Throughout 2021, the media and publishing segment invested 32.7 million U.S. dollars on advertising in newspapers in South Africa, up 27 percent from 25.8 million dollars in the previous year. Despite the annual increase, the 2021 figure amounted to less than 80 percent of the 42.8-million-dollar expenditure recorded in 2019.
