Clothing: weekly household expenditure in United Kingdom (UK) 2018, by age The average weekly amount UK households spent on clothing amounted to 19.60 British pounds in 2018. Among adults aged between 30 and 49, this was considerably higher at 24.60 British pounds. Expectedly, expenditure on clothing was not as high for older demographics.
Clothing: essential spending

In the fashion and apparel category, consumer spending concentrates on clothing garments, clothing materials, cleaning and hire of clothing included. Shoes and footwear follow suit, on which consumers spent 10.50 billion British pounds in 2018. On a monthly basis, sales of clothing and footwear items at retail stores usually peak around the holiday season, a trend which has been consistently observed in previous years.

Selling clothes in a booming market, but how?

The UK apparel and footwear market is one of the largest in Europe and forecast to expand even more. The market currently sees fierce rivalry not only between retailers, but also betwen sales channels. In the fashion segment, the revenue generated from e-commerce is resolutely climbing. To compete, more and more highstreet retailers in the UK are turning to selling their products via hybrid selling strategies like multichannel.
