Homicide rate in England and Wales 2000-2019

There were 11.4 homicides for every million people in England and Wales in 2018/19, following a ten-year high for the homicide rate in the previous year. During this period the year with the highest homicide rate was 2002/03, when the homicide rate stood at 17.9, although this year did include the 173 victims of Dr. Harold Shipman.

2016/17 includes 96 victims of Hillsborough and four victims of the Westminster Bridge attack.
2017/18 incudes 31 victims of the terrorist attacks that involved multiple victims, including the Manchester Arena bombing, and the London Bridge attack.
