The surveys are developed in cooperation with SWR Medienforschung, the Zeitungs Marketing Gesellschaft (ZMG), the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, the Landeszentralen für politische Bildung Baden-Württemberg und Rheinland-Pfalz and the Stiftung Lesen.

The figures for 2004 to 2013 were derived from previous publications.
* Since 2014 the survey also includes the categories "daily newspaper (online)", "Magazine (online)", and "Reading e-books".
