In 2021, just 8.8 million Americans watched the Grammy Awards ceremony, down from over 18 million a year earlier. Viewership has been declining for several years. The Grammys are not the only awards show to suffer viewer losses, and questions about the appeal and relevance of awards shows to the U.S. public have been raised after years of declining viewer numbers for the Oscars, the Golden Globes, and the MTV Video Music Awards.
