Share of female popular music artists in the U.S. 2019

According to a study exploring the share of female artists in popular music in the United States between the years 2012 and 2019, 22.5 percent of the artists featuring on songs in the top 100 charts in 2019 were women, up from 17.1 percent in the previous year. Whilst the 2019 figure is higher than the one recorded in 2018, both percentages are lower than those reported in 2012, 2015, and 2016, and the share of female artists across the songs analyzed has yet to surpass 30 percent since the study began investigating gender representation in the industry.
