England: housing overcrowding 2022

The percentage of housing in England that was deemed overcrowded between 2005 and 2022 varied depending on the tenure. Social renters were most likely to occupy an overcrowded home, with 8.1 percent of homes falling in this category in 2022. Meanwhile, for owner occupied housing this share stood at 1.1 percent. In 2021, there were around 24 million houses in England.
