Share of daily smokers in Italy 2003-2019

Between 2003 and 2019 the percentage of smokers in Italy decreased considerably. In 2003 this figure was equal to 23.8 percent, but in the same year the Italian government passed an important smoking ban, forbidding this activity in enclosed public spaces. The law had an immediate effect, as in 2005 the percentage of smokers already dropped to 22 percent. As of 2019, the share of smokers in the Italian population was equal to 18.4 percent.
