Domestic consumption of coffee in Australia from FY 2014-FY 2018 Domestic coffee consumption in Australia had steadily declined over the last two years, following a peak in 2016 where the national consumption rate reached 1.785 million sixty-kilogram bags. As of 2018 however, the national consumption rate had reduced to 1.710 million sixty-kilogram bags. Individually, Australians consumed an average of 1.91 kilograms of coffee each during 2017. Total revenue of the coffee market in Australia reached 1.433 million US dollars in 2017.
 The cost of a cup of coffee

  The most popular coffee choice in cafes and coffee bars during 2018 was a latte, which represented 33 percent of all cups sold, the average price of which reached 4.18 Australian dollars during the same year. A total of 42 percent of all lattes sold in 2018 were sold in Victoria, followed by 32 percent in Tasmania.



 Coffee shops and the economy

Revenue of cafes and coffee shops during the financial year 2015 was 4.35 billion Australian dollars, and this is estimated to steadily increase year on year until the five million Australian dollar mark is reached during the financial year 2020.

Employment in cafes and coffee shops during the same year was just over 86 thousand, and this figure too is predicted to increase year on year, reaching 96 thousand in the financial year 2020.
