Marketing expenses of leading OTAs worldwide 2019-2022
The marketing expenses of leading online travel agencies (OTAs) worldwide grew significantly in 2022 compared to the previous year, following a sharp decline with the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Over the period considered, Booking Holdings and the Expedia Group reported the highest figures, spending roughly six billion and 6.1 billion U.S. dollars on marketing in 2022, respectively. While Airbnb recorded the third-highest figure that year, it spent substantially less than Booking Holdings and Expedia, with the company's marketing expenses reaching 1.5 billion U.S. dollars.
