European leading banks by market capital 2021

Between 2010 and 2021, HSBC Holdings was by far the largest European bank based on market capitalization. As of 2021, BNP paribas ranked second, and UBS ranked third.

At most leading banks in Europe by market capitalization, the impact of the coronavirus outbreak could be seen in the 2020 values. All banks except for UBS showed a drop in the market capitalization from December 31, 2019 to December 31, 2020. This trend can be seen by observing the monthly development of the market capitalization since the coronavirus outbreak in December 2019.
